Burning the late night oil

Since HyenaDave has yet to post anything on this blog since creating it and my constant badgering via text messages of “POST SOMETHING!” has yet to work, I’ll post on what I’ve been working on since I couldn’t sleep last night.

Seeing that my Exorcists Army list is lead by a Vulkan He’stan clone (I have to come up with a name for him) I’m going to have to make a mini to represent him in the game.

I first started looking at Space Marine Captain and Commander minis. I wasn’t too happy with what I found in my bit boxes. I found a Captain Stern Grey Knight and it looked promising. I took it out of the blister and started looking around for a suitable “Spear of Vulkan.” I found that the Grey Knight nemesis force weapon looks just like the picture of Vulkan He’stan in the 5th edition Space Marine Codex. I took one form one of my many un-built Grey Knight Terminators. Next was “The Gauntlet of the Forge.” This took me a while to come up with a solution. I think I’m going to use a lighting claw arm. I’m going to cut off the claws and somehow make it look like it will spit out a wall of flaming death. I say going because I don’t have any lighting claws in my bit box. I made a mental note to call Neal at The WarStore and place an order lighting claws from his BattleWagon Bits service along with everything else I need for my Exorcists Army List. It’s Christmas time and I deserve a present to myself. I’m either going to make “Kerare’s Mantle” out of Green Stuff and/or a combination of Green Stuff and Malus Darkblade cloak. It’s from the fantasy Warhammer Dark Elves. Sometimes it’s good to have the Games Workshop catalog when looking for bits.

I started to look closer at the picture in the codex and at the Captain Stern mini. I wasn’t too happy. I needed something that looked a bit beefier and less ornate. I would also have to do a lot of converting and modeling. More than I wanted to do. I started again looking though my minis. I found one of the new Techmarines. I was going to use it as a Iron Father for my Iron Hands Army but the Emperor has a higher calling for him of serve in the Exorcists Space Marine Chapter. He looks beefy and sturdy and matches well what’s in the codex. I started to line things up and it looked very promising.

At this point I think I was a little delirious from the lack of sleep because I decided to magnetize the mini’s arms. I pulled out my dremel and started to carve into the mini. I really didn’t have to right size magnets but I made it work. In the pictures below you will see what I’ve started. It’s really early work. I’m open to some suggestions you all might have. At least I’m posting not like HyenaDave.......

If your ordering from a bits store then get the arm of the black corsairs dude because that has a built in flamer in the hand just like hestan.

Are you referring to Huron Blackheart - Master of the Red Corsairs? I'll look into that, Thanks!
